Craps Odds of the Different Numbers
Since craps uses a pair of dice we can be sure that a huge part of this game will really involve probabilities. There are many bets we can make in the game based on the outcome of the rolls made utilizing a pair of dice. Given this premise a wise course would have to be to understand the odds for the different combinations we can get on two dice. By learning and understanding these odds we can also understand the odds of the many different bets in craps.
We'll be looking at the different probabilities or odds of numbers in craps. We can safely assume that some numbers or dice roll combinations will be harder to come by than others. We can thereafter correlate this to the odds of winning a bet on the craps table layout.
Here are the odds of the different numbers we can get in a roll using two dice. The two hardest numbers to come by in craps will have to be two and 12. The reason behind this is simply due to the fact that there is only one way to make either a two or a 12 using a pair of dice in craps. Obviously a total of two can only be made by rolling a pair of ones and a 12 can only be made when you roll a pair of sixes on two dice.
Odds of rolling a two or a 12 is one out of 36. Making a three and 11 comes second hardest since you only have two possible combinations for both numbers using two dice in a game of craps. The odds for making a total of three or a total of 11 in craps will be one to 18. Getting a four or a ten on two dice will have the same odds as well. These two totals each will have three combinations in a game of craps. The probability of getting a four or a ten will be one is to 12.
Getting either a five and nine will have four combinations each. The probability of getting either will be one in nine. Getting a total of either six or eight will both have five dice combinations each. The odds of getting either of the two numbers will be one in six.
Let's look at how all this relates to the field in a game of craps. Out of the 12 numbers we get on the dice the numbers five, six, seven, and eight are not on the layout. There are 36 combinations but 20 of them can't be found on the field. That is why you have a 44% chance of winning these bets.
By looking at the odds of the different numbers in craps we can figure out the odds of the different bets in the game. We will also know our odds of losing a bet during our craps gaming sessions.
